My dog eats its own feces.
What do I do?

there are a few reasons why your pet is addicted to eating its own feces:

 

firstly, when a number of puppies are placed together, 
if one puppy begins to consume feces, others mimic its behavior and begin eating feces too; 
and this is because they see feces as some kind of food and want to taste it out of curiosity.

 

secondly, also the most common reason, it may be because a lot of owners 
over-punish their puppies for not peeing/pooing at the right place, and as a result of that 
some puppies would choose to eat their own feces to avoid such punishment.

 

thirdly and lastly, it may be because they are over-starved, 
and with the protein and smell of food left in the feces, 
some puppies eat from those to get the nutrition and energy needed to stay alive.

 

now that you know the reasons why your pet eats its own feces, 

it's best not to punish them too hard as a result of properly potty trained.
